  3. Sweep the brush across your palm. See powder? You're ready.
  4. Apply liberally to exposed skin. Reapply every 2 to 3 hours as needed.

How to use Bug Brush in three steps

Pop, tap, apply. It takes about as long as finding your shoes.

  1. Hand holding a capped Bug Brush on a forest trail, ready to tap

    Step 1: Pop

Pop the cap, pull out the netting and put the cap back on.

  2. Bug Brush tapped over an open palm so the powder shows

    Step 2: Tap

With the cap on, tap it on a hard surface about 5 times. Sweep the brush across your palm. See powder? You're ready.

  3. Woman brushing Bug Brush powder onto her arm on a hike

    Step 3: Apply

Brush a light, even layer over exposed skin. For kids 6 months and up, an adult applies it: powder on your own hands first, then onto your child.

Reapply every 2 to 3 hours. Avoid eyes and mouth. Not for children under 6 months.

Six plant actives

  • Neem
  • Lemongrass
  • Lavender
  • Peppermint
  • Geraniol
  • Menthol

Plant based and DEET free, with no permethrin and no synthetic pesticides. It smells like lavender and lemongrass, not bug spray.

Made with essential oils. If you have sensitive skin, try a small amount first.

Does a powder work?

Yes, when it's on your skin. Bug Brush reduces mosquito bites when used as directed. The plant actives ride in a dry powder that you brush over exposed skin, with no spray drift and no sticky residue.

The one thing to get right is the tap. If your palm shows no powder, tap a few more times before you brush. Then reapply every 2 to 3 hours.

Questions people ask first

Still wondering about something? Email hello@solbrush.com and a real person writes back.

Why does my Bug Brush look half full?

It's filled by weight, not to the top. Every Bug Brush holds 0.64 oz (18 g) of powder, and powder settles in the tube, so it can look partly full next to a Sol Brush. Tap it with the cap on and the powder moves up into the bristles.

I tapped it and no powder comes out. What now?

Tap harder. With the cap on, tap the brush firmly on a hard surface about 5 times, then sweep it across your palm. Still nothing on your palm? Tap a few more times, and if it stays stuck, email hello@solbrush.com with a photo or a short video and we'll help.

How often do I reapply Bug Brush?

Every 2 to 3 hours. Keep it in your bag or pocket so the next layer takes a few seconds: tap it with the cap on, check your palm for powder, then brush it over exposed skin again. Avoid eyes and mouth.

Can I use it on my kids? What age?

Yes, for ages 6 months and up, applied by an adult. Brush the powder onto your own hands first, then onto your child, and keep it away from eyes and mouth. It's not for babies under 6 months. Bug Brush is safe when used as directed.

What does it smell like?

Lavender and lemongrass, not bug spray. The scent comes from the essential oils in the formula, with a little peppermint in there too. If you have sensitive skin, try a small amount first.

Does it work on other bugs?

Bug Brush is a mosquito repellent, and mosquitoes are the only pest we make a claim for. It reduces mosquito bites, so pack it for the evenings, trails and patios where they find you.

Can I bring it on a plane?

Yes. It's a dry powder, so it's TSA friendly with no liquid restrictions and no leaks. It's pocket sized and fits a carry-on, a purse or a backpack pocket.

What if it isn't for me?

You have 30 days. Unopened, or if you have a skin reaction, you get a full refund. Opened, you get 30% back. The refund policy has the details, and hello@solbrush.com can help with anything else.
